My catalina.out file has grown to an enormous size. What is the best way to empty it?... If I delete and replace it with an empty catalina.out file, will I need to restart Tomcat?

Inorder to delete it or rename and save it.. first you have to stop server. Then u can delete it or rename it and save(if you want to go through that logs again). When you restart server you will have new catalina.out.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
