Does mod_rewrite work with mod_jk?

I'm trying to rewrite URLs for tomcat (connected to apache with mod_jk), and I see exactly the transformation I want in the rewrite logs, and yet tomcat shows the original URL in the access log.

I've tried loading mod_jk before or after mod_rewrite, with no change.

Should this work? Any suggestions?

Thanks
