Hi,

I have a problem when setting the classpath for Tomcat 5.0.28. When I set classpath, I'm getting message like

C:\Documents and Settings\narendc echo The BASEDIR environment variable is not defined
The BASEDIR environment variable is not defined BASEDIR environment variable is not defined

C:\Documents and Settings\narendc echo This environment variable is needed to run this program
This environment variable is needed to run this program

My Tomcat server is running smoothly and even I can run example programs. But when I try to compile, I can't. Show me some light in this issue

Thanks and Regards,
Narendranath

What OS are you running? The path C:\Documents and Settings\ is a Windows path, yet this is the Mac OS forum...

Tomcat doesn't use your classpath.
It uses JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME.
If you're running more than one instance from the same codebase, then it uses CATALINA_BASE as well.

If you've installed it as a windows service, which it appears that you haven't then it uses registry settings.

Read the class-loader-howto.html under webapps/tomcat-docs of your Tomcat installation for all the details of where tomcat looks for classes.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
