Hi All,

I recently installed Tomcat5.0.28 on XP at home. I am using JDK 1.5. I have completed all the necessary requiments. I am sure about it.... I start tomcat from command prompt using "startup.bat" and the server starts properly..

The problem is when i say "http://localhost:8080" on browser (IE), it says "cann't find the server". I checked it with Netscape also, without any luck.... Do I need to do any other setting ??

Can anybody tell me what cud be the problem. I have set CATALINA_HOME, JAVA_HOME properly.... I have been working on tomcat4.x previously on .NT/2K without any problem.... Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated...

regds,
Ravinder Singh.

If you are sure that Tomcat is really running (check the Task Manager), the likely cause is that your hosts file does not define "localhost" - try http://127.0.0.1:8080/
If that works, look for hosts under WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc
You want a line that looks like:

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
