iam running a jsp program in tomcat iam getting an exception as follows:
HTTP Status 500 -

type Exception report

description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP

No Java compiler was found to compile the generated source for the JSP.
This can usually be solved by copying manually $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar from the JDK
to the common/lib directory of the Tomcat server, followed by a Tomcat restart.
If using an alternate Java compiler, please check its installation and access path.

note The full stack trace of the root cause is available in the Tomcat logs.

Apache Tomcat/5.0.5.
what shall i do for correct execution

Just like it says, it can't find your java compiler.

You need to install the JDK not the JRE alone.

"phani bh",

There aren't may rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Welcome to the Ranch, phani. It looks like your issue is a Tomcat setup issue so I've moved this post to the Tomcat forum.

Also, in the future please use more meaningful subjects when posting. "I am new, please help me" does not describe your problem very well. I have changed the topic subject to something a little more descriptive for you.
I agree. Here's the link:

It's not a secret anymore!
