Cannot install ROOT certificate

I am trying to import the root certificate but I am getting the error...

keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 certificate

/usr/java/jdk1.5.0/bin/keytool -import -trustcacerts -
alias root -file rootca.cer -keypass changeit -keystore .keystore2
-storepass changeit

I am running Tomcat5.5.12....I am not sure what this error refers to and I have used this code straight from a Tomcat Security Book. I appreciate the help.

Please help.

"Mr. T",

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.
