Tomcat 5.5.15 configuring multiple instances

I have been trying for 2 days to configure Tomcat 5.5.15 to run multiple instances on a Windows XP Pro box. In my searches, I have not found any step-by-step procedures for doing this. All I have found are references to a CATALINA_BASE environment variable, but no particulars on what files need to go where and startup procedures.

I have attempted to configure parameters in the registry, but can't get it to work.

If you can shed some light on this, I would welcome the direction and assistance.

From my memory, these were the steps I could think of.

1)Create a batch file to set the CATALINA_BASE, CATALIANA_HOME and then starts the server.

2)To the base directory(CATALINA_BASE), copy config, log and webapps from any other location.
3) Don't remember whether we have to make in any changes in server.xml. But I leave that to you for trial and error.
