Why is this happening? Tomcat/Linux

I have Fedora Core 5 and have the following in .bashrc in my /home/trai:
JAVA_HOME=/home/trai/devtools/jdk1.5.0_06 CATALINA_HOME=/home/trai/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28 PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$CATALINA_HOME/bin:$PATH:$HOME/bin export CATALINA_HOME export JAVA_HOME export PATH
When I do the "startup.sh" I get the following:
The BASEDIR environment variable is not defined correctly This environment variable is needed to run this program
Any Idea Why is it complaining about the BASEDIR? What have I missed to configure to get this BASEDIR recognized?

Check that all the scripts in your CATALINA_HOME/bin directory are executable.
If they are not change the permissions to make them all executable. You can do that with the command chmod from linux command line.
