Monitor tomcat, logs

How can I monitor tomcat? where are the logs stored on debian/linux server ? I want to know when and why does tomcat stops ?

Recent Tomcat versions have included the "Management" application - thoroughly discussed in your tomcat installation in web-apps/tomcat-docs/manager-howto.html - this lets you monitor all sorts of useful things such as the number of threads, memory settings, active requests, etc.
(I have no idea about the log location but it should be relative to the Tomcat installation location)

Look under {tomcat install}/logs.
