what is web.xml,and what is its role and importance of web.xml??

web.xml is called the deployment descriptor.
All the servlets that are to be used in teh context are to be declared inside this file along with their URL patterns. Then the filter declaration and stuff like that boes into it.
Its basically the central configuration point for the context that you are deploying

The required contents of web.xml and their uses are laid out in minute detail in the servlet API. You can get the full api as a pdf document here.
Any programmer working with servlets should have a copy.
