Tomcat Monitor error

I've just installed Tomcat 6.0.1 on a Windows XP Pro machine with IIS in it. I've installed it will the default parameters and didn't get any errors. When I try to open the Tomcat Monitor I get "An instance of 'Tomcat6' application is already running". Any ideas on why am I getting this. I looked in the log files and couldn't find any errors. I haven't done any confgurations yet (i.e. registry settings, workers files, etc.) but I didn't have a problem in a Windows 2000 machine under the same situation. I'm able to connect to port 8080 with a browser and check the server status though.

What does
When I try to open the Tomcat Monitor
mean? How are you doing this? Is this some new feature of Tomcat 6?

The monitor is a small app that runs from the Windows start menu.
It exists in version 5 as well.
You get it when you install with the tomcat.exe version.

The monitor app puts a small icon in your systray.
Is it already there?
If so, you can bring the monitor app up by double clicking on that.
You can't have two instances running at the same time.
This is why you're seeing that error.

Thanks for your reply Ben. I hava an Apache icon on my tray. When I double click it I get a small application called Apache Tomcat Properties. I would expect that to be the same application that I could run by running "Configure Tomcat" from the start ment. BTW, when I try to run "Configure Tomcat" I get the same error. When trying to run "Monitor Tomcat" I thought I would get something different.

If I right click the icon on the tray I only get "Configure", "Start Service" (grayed out since it's running), "Stop Service", "Thread Dump" and "About".

It's the same app.
I think by 'monitor' they mean that it monitor's the Windows service (running or not running).
I thought it was going to be an app that shows current memory stats, etc. when I first saw it too.

By the way, if you want a decent monitoring tool, check out jConsole.
It ships with JDK1.5.0.
It monitors the JVM itself but also shows you all of the MBean data for an application. Tomcat uses MBeans heavily so you can see quite a lot of information with it.

Thanks Ben. I'm now getting really frustrating with another error that I will post in another thread since it is unrelated.
