Hi,
New to Servlets and TOMCAT till date only used WSAD and JDEVELOPER...

I am preparing for SCWCD,and for that downloaded TomCat, during its installation it asked me for the login/password for manager, At that time I gave it as admin/admin. Where as my pc user name is different. For the first time I was able to login, it did show me the login page. but now when I am trying to launch the Tomcat MAnager after restarting my pc ,I am getting the above mentioned error.

I have edited the tomcat-users.xml and replaced admin/admin userid/pwd by my PC userid/pwd as somewhere I read that TOmcat requires administrator login.

FYI My OS is VISTA

Hope to get a reply soon.

Check tomcat-users.xml for syntax errors.
Also look in the Tomcat logs to see if there is any more specific information about what is going wrong during startup.

I also faced this problem and found that MS-Vista does not allow to create or modify files in "C:\Program Files" without confirming "Admin" rights.

So move out Tomcat from "C:\Program Files" directory to either c:\ drive or any other drive.

Cheers,
Palani

"Palani",

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!
