XDoclet @jboss.declared-sql sub query

ok... I have this query:

 SELECT * FROM
(SELECT * FROM tableA P
WHERE P.ITEM_ID=16150
AND P.ACTIVE_FLAG = 1
ORDER BY P.DATE DESC)
WHERE ROWNUM = 1   

by default in the "where" section of the doclet it will make the query look like this when it is built:

  SELECT * FROM tableA
(SELECT * FROM tableA P
WHERE P.ITEM_ID=16150
AND P.ACTIVE_FLAG = 1
ORDER BY P.DATE DESC)
WHERE ROWNUM = 1  

and I don't kow if I can use rownum also...
can I use a generic select to be used on a subquery?

JBoss 4.0.4, and using XDoclet to generate EJBs
