I dunno. All I know is that they say "most popular" and the links are not direct. The links go through yahoo meaning that they are counting the clicks. I suspect that they have ways of checking to see how many IP's the clicks are coming from, so if one user clicks a zillion times, they'll still count that as one (or they might decide to black list that site). But if gobs of people click from lots of different places, that has to be all good

One more vote cast. My 2 cents worth for the site I feel i am beginning to get addicted to . [This message has been edited by shree vijay (edited January 23, 2001).] [This message has been edited by shree vijay (edited January 23, 2001).]

For a long time, I've been meaning to make a suggestion that you put a JR HOME link on the saloon, so that when I'm done palaverin' (for friends out of country, that's western US cowboy slang for "profuse or idle chatter" ) I can more easily get back home. Guess I'll be content with my 'Yahoo! Computer' bookmark and just vote my way back. But when the votes are all in and the recount's done, maybe reconsider the HOME button?
Is there an example of what you are talking about?

JC - I'm pretty sure the link you're requesting already exists. If you scroll to the bottom of any Saloon page you will see the word JavaRanch underlined. Click on this and it will take you back to the main page. Chris [This message has been edited by Chris Cingrani (edited January 12, 2001).]

Do they have some way of knowing if you click it 5 times in 5 minutes? Just curious...
by the way I like that after submitting an email (and the nifty cookie feature of remembering who I am, thank goodness, I can't remember all of my psswds and logins can I?) the page kicks me back to the last page I was looking at... Now that is functional!

I put my vote in. Does JavaRanch get anything, besides good publicity, for being one of the top sites, or the top site? For what it's worth, I spend more time on this site than any other Jave site out there. Keep up the excellent work, and thanks to everyone that makes it possible!
All we get is a better listing. And for yahoo, that could mean a lot of traffic.

Are you sure that Yahoo is really counting the clicks to determine the most popular sites? I don't want to suggest that Yahoo is corrupt, but I know that at least some portal sites get paid to rank a link higher than others. -Mirko
