I am trying to build a chat application using JMS. Is it possible to use JBoss as the IDE for this project, ie. what configuration change is needed for the JBoss to integrate my JMS application into it?

What do you mean by "JBoss" The usual meaning is JBoss Application Server. And an application server is not an IDE. So the answer to your question is "no".

When I build JMS apps in Eclipse, I simply add the JMS JAR to the libraries for my project.
