I hope that I am not violating a forum rule, but I wonder whether anyone has used JConfig by Samizdat Productions . It seems to have some useful classes for gathering hardware information, but I am having trouble making it work. It has been recommended a few times on this forum, so I am hopeful that someone has used it successfully. (Samizdat appears to have no technical support). Thanks. (web site)

I'm the author of JConfig, and sometimes it takes a while or a couple tries for me to answer questions. As for the questions you sent via email, JConfig comes with the full source, and the DiskBrowser application in the com.tolstoy.testjc package illustrates how to get file and drive information. For a concise rundown, see the JConfig overview : "Get information on drives, directories, and files", etc.
