applet can't upload file through orion user manager

I'm using a 3rd party applet which uploads a file to my orion server application. The applet works fine as long as it's contained in a webpage without user security constraints (declared in WEB.XML). However if the webpage has a user security constraint, the applet fails to upload the file. Can anyone tell me why this happens? I don't understand how the webpage can be accessed but the applet is blocked.

Much appreciated.

Does the applet have a way to authenticate itself as another user of the secured web page? Is the applet signed?

What kind of security constraint is it? If a browser/human user needs to be authenticated to use the page, then so does the applet.

How Basic Auth can be used from within an applet is described in the Applet FAQ (which is linked in my signature).
I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
