This is more background information than anything else. Back when J2EE was first getting attention, (98/99 timeframe), OrionServer was the gold standard. All of the J2EE classes I taught used OrionServer because it was so good, and free! Sometime later I heard (purely rumor) that Orion's J2EE container was purchased by Oracle.
In any case, its a good, J2EE container, and a quick review of the http://www.orionserver.com/ website appears to show it still as free for DEVELOPMENT purposes.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Unless you really suck at it. Then, you might just want to try something else, if you dont' want to be a loser I mean.
