I had a request today to add Princeton, New Jersey to the hired guns stuff.
When I look at maps, it looks like a tiny town.
This guy was pretty insistant that it's BIG! "Silicon Valley of the East" he says.
Can anyone verify this for me?
It seems awfully close to New York and Philly.
I've been trying to make a rule to not add cities that are within 50 miles of a bigger city. This doesn't meet that rule, but perhaps it could qualify as an exception since it is about 30 miles from either.

Paul,
I wouldn'd really call it a BIG SVofTE, but I would say
a mid sized pocket of technical activity.
One reason I would probably give it it's own area is that
of the few people I know around (talked to three) there say
they wouldn'd commute to NY or Philly - they would move.
Best I can do for you.

I echo Steve's sentiments and add my own: Having lived in Southern Jersey, I can tell you it's a lot cheaper than Northern Jersey/NY, so people may be more willing to work in Princeton than further north. As for how much opportunity is there, I regret to say that I was still trying to be an actuary in those days.

I used to live there. In addition to lot of NY and Phily commuters, there's quite a number of white collar industries in the area, and a fair number of well educated, technical people.
But the Silicon Valley fo the East is Rt 128 in Boston. :-)
