January 13,1999, 7:00 pm Driscoll Hall room 1880: Building DBAware Apps using Inprise JBuilder2 Kevin Minard, Senior Java Consultant/Developer Kevin will demonstrate some of the features of the JBuilder Java IDE from Inprise. He will discuss some of the new features of version 2, and will also give a tutorial on how to build a DBAware GUI using JBuilder. Kevin will relate tips, tricks, and pitfalls, all from a developer perspective. Code will be provided for the tutorial. Speaker Bio: Kevin Minard has a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Colorado and has 7 years of software development experience. He has worked with JBuilder for the past year and a half, 8 months of which were while under contract with Inprise. He is currently working as a senior Java developer for Alumni Consulting Group, developing client/server applications for Janus Funds.
Would this discussion include OODB (such as, oh, say...Object Store) awareness? Does it make any difference? Or do JBuilder's features only work with specific RDBMS's? (I'm not sure how JBuilder interfaces with DBMS's to begin with, since my work has been isolated from the DB end of things so far) I suppose I could just go and find out, but it would be nice to know what to expect, if possible.

I think the discussion is about JDBC. Is there a JDBC interface for ObjectStore? If all else fails, there is a lot of good discussion at the beginning of the meeting. The first time I went there were loads of excellent prizes. The second time I went, there was loads of excellent food. It's been worth the trip every time for me.
