[djug] Meeting next Wednesday, 6/9
Wed, 2 Jun 1999 18:26:14 -0700 (PDT)
Charles Bradley <>

Just a reminder about our meeting next Monday. The
topic is Java and Java VM Performance. Our speakers
will be from IBM. I've given the web updates to
Corey, so that should be updated later in the week.
For now, I've attached the details below.
Java Performance
Recently published performance data indicates that IBM
provides one of the highest
performing Java Virtual Machines(JIT) (see SPECJAVA,
JavaWorld, InfoWorld). This talk will summarize
current performance results(both published and
non-published) and discuss a number of the IBM changes
were made to obtain these results. Technical
enhancements to Garbage Collection, Object Allocation,
Monitors, and JITs will be discussed. Current JAVA
performance inhibitors and liabilities will be
detailed. The
talk will also be a good time to discuss areas where
users believe JAVA performance should be improved.
Mr. Uwe Zimmerman wil be our speaker. Mr. Zimmerman
works for IBM Network Computing Solutions in
Austin, Texas. His current work is focused on the
performance of Java and e-business systems.
