I posted this over at the APress forums but I thought I would post it here too:
Look at these two books:
Professional Struts Applications: Building Web Sites With Struts, Object-Relational Bridge, Lucene, and Velocity
Pro Struts 1.1 Applications, Second Edition
I have to admit that I am really confused. The first book is a re-publication of a Wrox book (Sept 2003) originally released back in March. It appears that no updates were made to this book. The chapters on ObjectRelationalBridge, for example, are covering an older release that makes some of the information in the book obsolete at the time it was published. The second book seems to be covering the same material and is scheduled for Dec 2003. My question is why bother publishing the first book? I can see why you would want to get a Struts book on the market (the top two Struts books have rankings under 2,000 on amazon) but did anyone really think that the republication of a Wrox book (especially a book mixed with technologies that are less than commonly used) would compete with the top sellers? Why not simply wait until December and release the second book? Does it make sense to publish a book and then publish a second edition only three months later?
