Hi there, Just wondering if you have a concrete release date for HF Design Patterns yet? Failing to win the contest , I'd like to buy it as soon as it hits the shelves. Arigato, Ray

Hi Ray, We are shooting for beginning of November!!! If all goes well, we'll have a real concrete date beginning - middle of October. Elisabeth [ September 12, 2004: Message edited by: Elisabeth Freeman ]

Elisabeth/ Kathy/ Bert, Looking foreward to the HFDP text, one question though: All of the current HF books are geared towards Sun Certifications. Is there a design patterns exam coming out that I'm not aware of? Thanks, Michael Sullivan

As far as I know, there's no specific design patterns exam offered. However, there are a couple of exams that are related, one is discussed here (Java Ranch) and another is the IBM Object Oriented Analysis and Design Exam (called the UML Certification Exam). I haven't taken either of these exams, nor do I know much about them at all, but they both include design questions, and may include specific questions about patterns. The Head First Design Patterns book is not being written for any exam. Kathy and Bert know a lot more about this, so hopefully they'll chime in too.

I'm thinking that Head First Java was not written for a specific exam either though it makes a fine Java tutorial as well as preparation for the SCJP book written by Sierra and Bates. I guess I'll be poised for another drive across town to get the HF Design patterns book at whichever Borders bookstore stocks it first. This time there may be *snow* to add further challenge to the crosstown commute

O'Reilly posted the book on their http://headfirst.oreilly.com/ site today: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/hfdesignpat/index.html There's a couple of typos in the description we're going to get fixed, but at least you get to see the Winning Cover in ACTION! Elisabeth

Howdy, O'Reilly claims that it will start shipping/appearing in stores on or near November 1 (possibly even sooner). The book is already complete; we're just finishing things like the index and TOC, etc. So it's DEFINITELY on schedule We'll keep you updated as it makes its way through the final process (printers, then binding, then warehouse distribution, then it starts making its way to stores). *Usually* Amazon is the first to get and ship the book, but this last time, it turned out to be Barnes & Noble that had it first. Usually within two weeks, though, everybody in the US has it and then it filters its way out to the rest of the country. All four of the authors are currently going without sleep to make sure it's done on time, so...it'll be there. cheers, Kathy

Are there any plans to have the book maybe in a PDF format? Or possibly zipped compilation of multiple html pages?
