I have a fair knowledge of core java and i want to learn servlets and jsp.I just want to know which book is best for the begineers which starts from basics of servlets.

Head First Servlets & JSPs is a very good book for the beginners,its a brain friendly book,you dont feel as if you are reading something,its very intersting book

Obviously, Head First Servlets & JSP is the excellent book.

You may also go through Marty Hall's excellent book here. It is free of cost
