Apparently time has marched on, and the version of java that my copy of "Head First Java (second edition)" (Java 5) teaches is no longer current.

It also seems that Sun completely changed their site and terminology, enough to completely confuse as to what is what.

Would the latest version (6?) be compatable with the book, if not would a kind soul link to a download that will get me started?

Thanks in advance.

Hey J,

For most programmers Java 6 didn't introduce much important new stuff. For the purposes of the book, you should be able to use Java 5 and Java 6 interchangeably. I'm not saying that something minor won't come up, but on the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if everything from the book worked the same. I'm pretty sure that we're not going to worry about updating the book until Java 7 comes along.

hth,

Bert

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
