Masters Thesis!

Hi All,

I'm currently undertaking a masters in Web Engineering, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an interesting project for my thesis. Just wondering whether anyone could come up with any inspirational ideas for me? Obviously, it has to be web-related, but apart from that it is quite open.

I suggest asking a professor. They often have a slew of half-developed ideas they want to see worked out.

Now, as to your question: it would help iof you described your degree program a bit. What does "Web engineering" entail, exactly? What have you learned about, and what will you be learning during the rest of your time? What's your current skill set and skill level?

And finally, can you give us a few examples of other successful thesis projects from your department, so we have an idea of the scope you're looking for? Degree programs vary widely, especially in the balance between theory and practice that's expected from a thesis project. Are you supposed to contribute something novel to the field, or instead produce an example of current practice? Are you supposed to answer a question?

Firstly, my apologies for cross posting. My MSc in Web Engineering mainly consists of J2EE and .NET with database development. In regards to my abilities, I undertook a bachelors in software development so I am fairly proficient in core java and database development. Coming back to the Masters thesis, I am required to come up with a novel idea (i.e. extending the knowledge base of the particular area I will research in). In addition to my thesis I will need to provide a working prototype, or final version dependent on the project I choose to do. This is the first year that this course has ran, so answering the question on what the past projects were like...I am unable to provide examples.

Why don't you design and implement the work-flow solution for manufacturing companies?

try google on work-flow solution J2EE. You will find number of white papers on it.

Another thing could be: web-cast the audio/video content. to demonstrate you will be requiring PDA or mobile phone with web enabled. It will connect to your site and play real time music.
