JMeter problem

I am using JMeter and am trying to hit simple URLs. I am behind a proxy and started JMeter as:

I added a HTTP Request sampler and a table listener, however when trying to run it I am getting under URL column values "Error". The log doesn't say any thing extraordinary. I tried with localhost URLs also with my Tomcat server but still the same results.

As per your post I understand you also tried this on your tomcat running locally to your JMeter on the same machine. That is strange, try the following, this may help :
=>Check that tomcat is running by running your browser with url http://localhost:<port>. This verifies that GET requests work.
=>If the above step passes, in JMeter, try adding port number as suffix to the server name in the same text box instead of separate text box for port number. One of the old version in JMeter had this problem.
=>Remove the proxy settings for your trials with local tomcat.

Hope this solves your problem, good luck

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
