How to Check Quality of Software

I am an undergraduate student of APIIT (Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology) in Malaysia. My group is working on our Assignment it is based on CMS (Content Management System) in this project i have select �Quality / Resource Checking of Software� if any body have an idea about Quality Checking of Software so share with me & what are the steps involve in this� process..

Big question. Answer depends on your role in the process. How a developer or team lead tries to ensure quality in the code as it evolves is very different from how a QA department tries to ensure quality before delivery to a customer, which is also very different from how a customer tries to ensure quality of how the final solution is integrated into their own environment.

Define "quality". What's the proper metric? # of classes or lines of code? Number of defects? Ease of maintainence? Elegance?

It's hard to measure because it's hard to define.
