Log file analysis for functional and performance related load test

Hi,

I am trying to create load tests for a web application but have already found many difficulties in my path. I was wondering whether someone experienced could help me out a little.

The intention is to use log-files (Tomcat access logs) to generate load tests which reflect the live load of the web-server.

The idea was to analyze the log files algorithmically and to extract 'the most occuring' user profiles which can used for building load tests.

Some problems however are that some of the 'selected sessions' will not be suitable for a load test. Like already existing users trying to register again, random values from the web-server (for ID's) which do not match previously generated random ID's etc.
