New Design with design patterns

Hi,
I am graduate student in Australia about to start a new project design for my course at a local university here.Could you guys share your views on the following project in respect of ONLY design patterns that I can make use of AND WHY.

As I understand, the design patterns are not to be used for design?

Sorry, Robert, there is no way to tell which Design Patterns to use from the requirements.
Design Patterns are rather focused solutions for very specific problems - and you won't know much about those problems before you started designing/implementing.
So, you don't decide about the usage of design patterns up front, but while you are evolving the system.
