Just wrote test #486 .............

Well , I just took the test and completed it unsuccessfully. I recieved a score of 62% , pass=70% . Missed it by 4.5 questions.
Few observations:
1: Some of the diagrams were not even legible ! I couldnt believe this. I wrote on a 17" monitor so that was ok , just some of the diagrams looked like they tried to blow up pictures , and didnt do it properly.
2: Not all of the multiple answer questions tell you how many to choose. I had 3 that said choose all that apply.
3: 2 or 3 of the questions didnt even make logical since , nor could I even figure out what they were asking.
4: pretty much the same class diagram was used everywhere and generally the questions only pertained to a few of the classes on it.
5: Exibits , I would safely say 60-70% of the questions required you to use exibits. Some questions even had upto 3 seperate exibits.
6: time for me wasnt a factor. I had 30 minutes left , and checked over the exam. ( maybe I went to quickly , but dont think so )
Overall , I think IBM should be absolutely embarrased to put out a test like this. I think it could have been written 100 times better , with legible diagrams , good english , spell checked , and so on ......... Its too bad that so much weight is put on this exam out there in the working world as I dont think this completely test your ability with the UML , but your ability to think exactly like IBM were when they wrote this dinasour.
I'm writing again tommorow afternoon as I think its a hit and miss kinda thing !

Wow! Your comments are the first I've read on the exam.
It sounds like the exam is written VERY poorly. It is too bad you cannot protest against the test.
Good luck on your next attempt.
Where are you form that you use the phrase, write, when referring to taking the exam?

I'm from Canada eh ?!
I just wrote IBM a long email telling them about my concerns about the test. Be suprised if I hear anything from them.
This wasnt meant to scare anyone , its not an impossible exam, but its hard enough without all the crap you have to deal with.

I recall when I took it that some of the wording was a bit confusing and a lot of the diagrams were down right terrible.
I don't feel time was a big factor either, but the test covered a lot of ground.
I would recommend no one try and take the test on a monitor with less than 1024x768 resolution. If you get stuck with 640x480, it would be a real challenge to deal with the diagrams.

Hi Kosaic,
This test is not well presented. There are many other factors which could contribute to your score. However, if things go well, I think one should score in the region of 80-85% in this test.
I had managed to score 73%.However did quite well in the exhibit questions; messed up in others

The main thing that contributed to my score was wrong answers !
I dont disagree with you sandeep , its not Extremely hard , but tough enough. I am taking the test again today at 1pm and I going to kick its ass this time. I will be a lot more relaxed and wont let all the crap you have to deal with get to me this time.
Wish me luck !

Kosiac is pretty much on the mark here. Areas I would have focussed more on is the "Applying UML and Patterns" book by Craig Larman. I didn't get it on the first write either, but write this Friday and am planning to celebrate that night.
Kosaic- no offense but where is the accent from?

For all those patientally awaiting my completeion of the exam , I havent re-did it yet. Looking at mid next week to do so. I havent had much time to study but am shooting for next Wed. or abouts.
Any suggestion on what to study regarding "Static Modelling" ? That seems to be the toughest category on the exam , but I cant find anything that closely matches this skill. Is it something that comes with experience more so than Books ?
Thanks

If you have gone through the recommended books 2-3 times you don;t need to be concerned about this sub-topic.I scored 90% in this topic and I still have to do a real project in OO.
