Well, even closing down my browser didn't help. But today I can see them fine, so re-booting fixed the problem. What is so weird is that it only happened on a few of the many things that I posted. Well, this only happens at home, so I wonder if it is an AOL thing??? I use AOL for my ISP, then I minimize it and use IE for the browser (AOL drives me nuts).
Chances are that something, somewhere has decided to cache the pages for you. You can see them, but you don't "have to" pass them all the way through the modem again - the cache thinks the older pages are just as good.

But why just a few of them, and why doesn't refresh fix it, that's what refresh if FOR.

Cindy, I was helping Randall on an Applet problem, and stupid IE5.5 cached my class file somewhere. Every changed I made never got reflected. I was so annoyed. I resorted to what you did, reboot. -Peter

It's and AOL thing. AOL has millions of customers so rather than go out to the web for every page request, AOL caches pages and then serves them upon request. So you can refresh 1 million times but you are only refreshing your own cache from AOL's cache. AOL only caches straight HTML pages, not cgi pages. That is why the topic pages will show the new count but the actual detail page doesn't show any update. There is a very simple solution... get a real ISP.
AH! Now it all becomes clear. I think that you have convinced me. I am printing this page right now for tonight's heart to heart talk with my sweetie. (He has this "thing" about AOL - which is why we use it at all). SO - any good suggestions for a REAL ISP? The problem is we live north of Detroit - about 20 miles from Port Huron, in the boonies (like with cows around us) and I sure don't want to pay long distance charges.

Before I got a cable modem, I used to use MindSpring which is now part of EarthLink. I never had any problems with them.

I could be completely missing the point here, but if a web page isn't refreshing properly you can force your browser to load the latest page by holding down Shift (or is it Ctrl? I'm not sure) then clicking Refresh. I don't know anything about AOL, but I hope this works for you

The problem is that AOL does their own caching so reloading the page will only re-pull the page from AOL's cache.

I use Mindspring (now with Earthlink) and have had no problems and great service. But DO NOT install the Mindspring software. They never tell anyone this, but it is not at all necessary to use their software. You can set up everything through Dial-up Networking in Windows. I originally did this because I hadn't received the software in the mail yet but got hooked up through tech support. The tech support guy said he, and other tech support people there, does not use Mindspring software and does it the way he showed me. My bro wasn't sure he could do it without the software so he installed it and has had some problems that I think are because of it. But I recommend them...2+ years with not one problem.
