I would sugest doing a search on Google or even, lo and behold, JavaRanch has a search feature! I'll bet there are some past threads in this forum that hold just what you're asking for.

There are a huge number of books, articles, web sites that discuss aspects of UML. If you want a simple, painless overview:
UML Distilled: A Brief Guide to the Standard Object Modeling Language (Martin Fowler & Kendall Scott)
It won't make you a UML expert by any means, but it is an easy way to start the learning curve.
