Do the patterns really work? And how many patterns are there?

Hi Jeannie,

I think they all work; I've used Encapsulated Big Fat Opening and Interested Listener a whole bunch, myself. And I think pretty much all women know that a guy who sits there and asks her questions about herself is going to be somewhat unusual and fairly popular. ;> (Interested Listener.)
There are 21 patterns; a few structural patterns (for stateful sessons) were cut for time reasons but I imagine I'll have to do another book sometime and put them in. Preemptive Contradog is one.
Oh, and there are also three Friendzone refactorings. ;>

Ack! Another book! You're determined to make us do lots of study guides for certifications based on them, aren't you?!
Ah, well. I think still that it would be interesting to see a volume II...

Hmm, good point. Are the certifications for the initial date making or relationship maintaining patterns? I think the certifications would have to cover everything since having a bunch of first dates, kind of fun at first but Wearying. I think we still have the same number of certs, just covering more ground.

I would say a little of each - the question is how well you can apply the patterns, not just how well you can show little pieces of your knowledge of them. It's one thing to know, say, to apply Interested Listener for a few minutes, but the question is whether or not you can follow through and truly, successfully implement it over the length of an engagement/relationship.

You know, this might be the opportunity for a very clever AI program that would also mean a nice consistent certification test. We need an AI girl to try the patterns on.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
