A Thompson Technologies client has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Engineer. This is a 3 month contract to hire opportunity in Alpharetta.

Summary



Responsible for leading product development projects teams, consisting of 20 - 30 software engineers spanning local and remote engineering centers. This group of engineers will be responsible for the development and testing of software applications and associated products.



Responsibilities and Duties


Project manage the development of new software applications for the suite of products. This includes: negotiate requirements with the marketing department, develop project plans, drive decision making, manage schedules, identify risks, assign development tasks to team members, organize and track work assignments throughout the product development lifecycle, drive the project team to results, ensure good communications within and outside the team, coordinate relevant activities with the test and documentation managers, coordinate activities with other divisions, and report project status to management and other groups.

Translate complex business requirements to detailed design specifications. Have a broad understanding of the system application to determine missing or undefined requirements. Assist in development of software modules from detailed design specifications.
Work with Business Analysts in translating business requirements into high level designs.
Completes assigned tasks with minimal defects and within the allocated completion time for a given assignment.
Follow the protocol of using effective test techniques before promoting software enhancements to the various promotion groups (QA, Prod, etc.). Also, adhere to the documentation procedures implemented to insure that the auditing concerns are met.
Assist in development/maintenance of software supporting high volume production systems.
Assist in development/maintenance of software specifications utilizing design constructs and standards.
Interact with production support personnel to ensure that critical and major production issues are resolved in a timely manner.

5+ years Java, JEE, struts, XML and Oracle

Strong Object Oriented design techniques.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES

Primary Functions:
*Leads the development and implementation of project plans and schedules for IT software development initiatives across multiple technical units. This includes development and implementation of work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans and status reports. *Defines, reviews, edits and/or refines system requirements.
Recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and solution of technology issues
*Manages enterprise wide project start-up activities including technical environments,
requirement review processes, issue tracking, and status reporting.
*Leads project meetings with project team
*Responsible to ensure technical project development life cycle is being followed and required deliverables are being completed, reviewed and signed- off on by appropriate mangers
*Resolve project issues to expedite timely completion of project within budget.
*Prepare and report accurate project status to business unit and technology management
*Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables to ensure project goals are accomplished and in-line with business objectives.
*Recommend changes to departmental standards and work flows as required to effectively manage multiple projects. *Provide Technical and analytical guidance to Project Managers, Project Analysts, and other Technical Consultants

Secondary Functions:
*Perform additional duties as required by VP, Director or CIO to support Project Management efforts

Qualifications:
TS clearance required. TS/SCI preferred.

Education:
**BS/BA degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business or Project Management or seven years of equivalent experience.

Experience & Training:
*Five years technical project management experience
*7+ years PM experience
*Experience with large multiple deliverable projects
* Five years experience with full technical project life cycle development
* Five years experience with development and testing methodologies
* Understanding of how to leverage business applications for competitive advantage.

Good Programming Skills (One or more of the following: Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java, XSLT)
