eMeta (http://www.emeta.com) is an Internet software startup based in New York City. Unlike most start-ups, however, we are ALREADY PROFITABLE because we are generating sales faster than we can develop our product. Therefore, we are looking to quickly but carefully expand our small group of strong developers over the next several months.
As an expert software developer, you will partner with the CTO and other senior developers in designing and implementing the system architecture, server logic, external interfaces, and database structure of our flagship product eRights. Distributable over multiple servers, eRights' highly scalable application services provide for simple, flexible access control and licensing by moving the business rules required to control and bill for access to online content from slow, rigid, server-side scripts to an abstracted data layer. Basically, eRights solves the question, "Who has access to what information and under what terms?"
In addition to the skill sets reflected below, you should have at least 3 years relevant experience, ideally in commercial software development. This experience should include analysis, design, evaluation of tools and technologies, and hard-core development. You should be willing to occasionally visit customer sites in the Northeast.
Core Skills:
Advanced object-oriented design
Enterprise-level Java (C++, Objective C, Smalltalk, Ada would be equally as desirable)
SQL with any RDBMS (Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, etc.)
API development
Multithreaded analysis and design
UNIX and NT environments
Secondary Skills:
RMI or other remote object model (CORBA, or COM/DCOM)
Network, socket, TCP/IP programming
Cache performance analysis and tuning
JDBC, JNDI, LDAP
Information security (authentication and encryption)
Benefits include:
- Significant responsibility in a fast-paced environment
- Competitive salary
- Stock options
- Casual dress at the office
- Full Health insurance including dental and vision at no cost to employee, from first day of employment
- Sports Club membership
- Headquarters a stones throw from Central Park

eMeta is a fast-growing Internet software company based in New York City. We answer the question: Who has access to what information, and under which terms? Our software is deployed world-wide at major enterprises like the American Medical Association, the IEEE, and Thomson Financial. It runs on many platforms and handles many millions of daily requests.
Unlike most startups, we are already profitable and are generating more sales than we can handle with our existing team. Were looking to hire a Technical Architect for our professional services group so that we can expand and engage in more projects.
The Technical Architect is the key supporting technical resource on many client engagements. The role will be responsible for conceptual integrity of the application at the design and implementation level. The Technical Architect will also select the appropriate tools and products to facilitate the implementation of the architecture. Core responsibilities include:
Design and develop the overall application architecture and approach that accounts for all layers of the solution
Identify and design interfaces with third party systems to make best-of-breed solutions
Guide web developers/deployment engineers through implementation of the application
In conjunction with the project manager, develop an initial project work plan and ensure that it is adjusted as necessary throughout the project implementation
Minor travel may be required
Minimum experience is 3 years in application deployment.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
Extensive experience with the software development life cycle
Broad exposure to a wide variety of required applications and technologies including
Java, C/C++, XML, TCP/IP, HTTP, MS IIS, Apache, Oracle, JDBC, CORBA
Exposure to at least three of the following: ASP, JSP, XSL, Winsock, JNDI, COM
Strong understanding of relational databases and optimization
Expertise in system administration and network architecture
Strong communication skills, both internal (team) and external (client)
Hardware evaluation and procurement experience a plus
Benefits include:
- Significant responsibility in a fast-paced environment
- Competitive salary
- Stock options
- Casual dress at the office
- Full Health insurance including dental and vision at no cost to employee, from first day of employment
- Sports Club membership
