Spring application context can work outside the Apllication Server? in case of yes then when it is needed the Application Server?

Is the use of the application server mandatory to use the Annotation @Autowired?

Hi all,

I working with Spock and Groovy in order to test my application. I should need to run a ddl script before to run every test.
To execute the script from Groovy I am using the following code:

       def scriptToExecute = './src/test/groovy/com/sql/createTable.sql'        def sqlScriptToExecuteString = new File(scriptToExecute).text        sql.execute(sqlScriptToExecuteString)

The createTable.sql is a complex script that do several drop and create operation ( of course it is multiline ).  When I try to execute it I got the following exception:

java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00911: invalid character

To notice that the ddl is correct since that it has been checked running it on the same DB that I am connecting with groovy.

Any Idea how to resolve the problem?

I have cleared the TOGAF certification on June of the last year but from that moment I haven't dealed with TOGAF anymore because until now I wasn't in the position to use it (I have still continued to work as developer).
Now I have changed company and as Software Architect my boss have asked me to manage a framework that it is present in the company. The development is still ongoing since that it has been developed from a couple of developer that have used it for one of their old project.
My target should be evaluate what is already present in the framework, understand what it is missing and provide the result to obtain the green light from the top management to invest effort in this framework and extend it for other use in the company. Further to this activity I have the change to evaluate this framework applying the use of it to a real project where I am involved for half part of my time (it is really a good occasion to go more in depth in the evaluation of it).

Based on the description that I have done, do you think that TOGAF is a valid framework to use to do this "Assessment" job? In case of yes, any suggestion on either what part of Togaf  to use and some resources where to take inspiration to use for the first time TOGAF (I mean some real example of applied TOGAF and not only tehorical book to read)?
What are other alternatives (tool, framework, best practices, etc) in the IT that I can follow to do this job considering that it is the first time for me?

As in the subject I am interested in how can attach a pdf document in a word document.
I have tried to play around Apache Poi but I found out that Apache Poi provide a support only for Microsoft Office file then it is no possible to do it with Apache Poi.

Any Idea?

Hi All,

I have passed last week the part 1 with 62% and today the part 2 with 85%.
Since that I have found very useful this forum to take the Ocmjea first and then the Togaf cetrtification I am going to share my experience and my impression hoping to be useful to someone.

At the start when I decided to try to take the Togaf I understood that If I would have go forward studying the book of 700 pages then I would never have achieved my goal. This is mainly for two reason:
1)I would not have enough time to dedicate to it....I have family and I need to ensure the presence to the work since that I am a freelance
2)I have a very bad memory, so in every case it could not be possible for me to study 700 pages of mnemonic stuff.
For this I have decided to understand the overall meaning of what is Togaf and the overall way to work. To do this I have spent some hours watching the following videos:

After this, following the lessons learned from the previous certifications I went directly to see what are the questions that I would have found into the exam. I have started to do the test getting, of course, the worse result and after improving day by day going to see what are the right answers.
I can ensure you that in this way you got the double benefit:
1)You learn the concept in non mnemonic way. Indeed if you do a good job, you will go analyze your incorrect answer and you have to think;
2)You will not have surprise of what you will find in the test. From the past experiences I understood that often you risk to spend a lot of time to study the "incorrect" stuff.
To do this kind of practice for me it has been enough the following  tests for the part 1:

Then I have passed the part 1 with the 62% practicing for about less than one month.
To specify, my thought was to take some rest during the summer holiday and then to start again the study for the part 2.
But during one of my  business travel I read some past experiences of other person like the following:

and then I realized that for the second part you don't need of any kind of preparation. For me it has been funny because finally I found an exam that make sense, that is a test where you really can express your quality of good Architect/Engineer.
Indeed here you have scenario questions and then you have to be able to find the best answer/approach to fit the situation present in the scenario. In this test you can refer the 700 pages reference guide and this is magnific.
Then when I realized this I decided to try to take the part 2 before to go in vacation to take advantage of the freshness of  my brain that I had on the Togaf concepts. I have spent 3-4 days on the scenario tests present in the following link:

Finally today I went to the prometric center and I got 85%.

My advise are:
1)If you are not stressed with other stuff (work, family, short deadline) then evaluate to take part 1 and 2 in the same day. Again, the part 2 does not require any addition preparation. Simply you need to give a look, during your preparation, how are the scenario questions
2)Don't spend a lot of time studying on the reference 700 pages book. Let's Try to practice as much as possible. For me this is the best way to stimulate you to think on the stuff that you answered in incorrect way.



I hope that this could be useful for someone that, as me, look for some experiences to take the inspiration to belive that it is possible to take it.

I have just received the e-mail Congratulations on earning your Oracle Certification credential! from Oracle, after that I have submitted the form.
Now through the ORACLE CertView I can access to Certification History and see the certification. What I need to know is:

1)How Can I claim the Badge? On the website I don't see any point where I can do it. Do I need to wait for some other mail after the Congratulations on earning your Oracle Certification credential! mail?
2)What is the better way to publish this certification On LinkedIn?
2.1)Through LinkedIn? in this case where I can take the Url Certification that LinkedIn ask me?
2.2)Through OracleCertView? In this case where can I find the section that allow me to publish the certification?

Going around the web there is an infinite amount of the information in regard to the material to study for TOGAF certification:

1)Video on youtube of a plent of autors;
2)Official guide
3)Not official guide
4)Class.

Compared to OCMJEA I am in difficult since in that case it was clear that the best way to pass that exam was to study a particular book. For these reason I am here to ask help to you to know what is the better way to try to take this exam and save time.
From the forum I have found someone of you that he advised to use the non Ufficial guide of Kevin Lindley.
What is your thought in regard to this?

are you sure that they cover 1.4? Following the link http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=609&get_params=dc:D61808 it seems that they cover the version 2.2.

However I have already achieved the certification. I have chosen this course instead of Java 8 fundamentals because in my real life I am already doing already enough experience with Java 8 but I know that I have some lacuna on Arhcitect practice and for this I have chosen the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Using UML. What do you think in regard to this?

Indeed I saw that the majority of the person take the Java EE 7: New Features course that it is the cheapest one. I think that I will take the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Using UML, this is a little bit more expensive but

1)With the possibility of the Training On Demand it leaves me free to spend 2 days to be busy with the on line course in impossible time for person that live in Europe;
2)For a person that he would want to become an Architect it could have more sense this course that focus on the whole cycle of a project instead of the course Java EE 7: New Features that it is, at least I think, more oriented to the persons that have developer attitude.


What is your thought?
