I agree I was not ready to take the exam, but I am left with no choice, either don't take exam at all or give ur best try in the best part.

I was in the same situation but I did not feel any frustration. Yes, I would have liked to have more days to study but this happened any time I took an exam, beta or not.

I also didnt knew there are exams on this earth which go on for 51/2hrs without a break. The authors of SCJP (though beta) professional certification exam did not think of a simple logic that 99% folks cant stay that long with the exam. I wonder how this idea got approved

I'm assuming you did not try to take the beta for 70-300 (The Architecture exam for MCSD.NET). That one was longer and with more boring questions.

Guys, Prometric site sucks!

I remember about 2 years ago when I was waiting for the results of MSCD.NET Beta exam. They marked the exam status for everybody as failed and when the results where published for a few days it was a nightmare because they were changing the status of some people to Pass but not all on the same time. So for weeks there were people waiting and waiting to see that Failed turned into Passed.

Meantime they learned the lesson and at least the initial status shows Tested but they may still have issues.

As other people said it already: trust only the official Sun results.

Since SCJP 1.5 exam format is different than SCJP 1.4 then I was thinking that there is going to be a new format for SCJD as well.

Is there going to be a new exam for SUN CERTIFIED DEVELOPER FOR THE JAVA 2 PLATFORM?

Thanks!

Maybe it has an issue restoring the state. It has to save the state correctly otherwise they would have lost our answers, right?

"Maybe SCJP 1.5"
Great exam!!!

I loved the drag and drop and OOP related questions.

I did not like the fact that on drag and drop you can't go back/edit your answer. If you go back then you have to start from scratch. Why is that?

Overall, kudos for SUN for a much better exam than 1.4

Thanks!

Having gainded few SUN certifications myself I stopped taking anymore certifications. From my experience certifications only helps you to gain some theoretical knowledge. Knowing theory does not mean you are a good progremmer/developer either. None of my colleagues have certifications but they are hardcore programmers and have indepth knowledge on JAVA and J2EE stuff.

You are right. It is not enough to have one or more certifications but studying for certification it helps. It did in my case. For example I did not know much about databases before I started to study for MCDBA. It took me months and I went into a lot of details. Now I can even do database design and other things (tuning, write sprocs, triggers) even better than other people who were hired to be DBAs.

I think that certification helps you learn the basics. There were several cases in my career where I just remembered some things. I did not have to search a lot to figure out how to do things.

Studying for certification is like getting a degree. I know many smart people without a BS in CS but there are mising something. In college you do lots of basics things that help you undestand the basics and not waste time after that investigating them.

There is another case where I think it helps to have certifications: Software Architect. You need to know a little from everything to understand the system as a whole, the technologies and make good decisions.

You mean exam simulators for SCJP Tiger?

If so, you probably need to wait, because the author will first take the exam, taste it (question style and level of difficulty), and then can start prepare it. It is obvious that, even if currently there are any simulator releases, it might not be similar to real exam because SCJP Tiger has changed a lot, in both sytle and level of difficulty.

Nick

Yes, I meant exam simulators.

If it is that different maybe I'll wait for the final exam. I do not have time to study for the beta. Some exam simulators and a couple of good books might help me.
