hi

is it possible with jpql (hibernate here) to join to an unmapped table ?
i need to retrieve entities, that match some criteria with an unmapped table (ids, here). yes i know, i can use native queries, but in that case i´d have to create all the other joins myself (which is what the JPA normally does for me).

an example:

jpql query:

what i need would be something liek that:
or even something like

creating an bogus Entity for that unmapped table works, but isn´t an option (because i would load tons of data from there, which i do not need)

These considerations are part of my assignment. But i feel, i should not disclose it here.

Context is: i have two of the mentioned servers available as web-servers and i am expected to balance the load between em. That could mean of course

a) balance between two SSL-capable HTTP-Servers and thus colocate Servlet-Container and EJB Server on a seperate hardware,

or - if resources are reasonable -

b) use two HTTP-Server/Servlet-Container combos as clients to an EJB Server (a much more capable machine).
Hi

unfortunately (in every respect) I have no practical experience with sparc-based hardware. My question is: would a well-equipped (4cpus, 4g ram) be sufficient to run a decent web container as a client to an EJB Server ?
Yes, I am aware of the trade-offs resulting from using 2 VMs as seperate Webcontainer/EJB-Server (remotecalls, etc...).

thanks, uwe

Thanks for these helpful notes. I found one little typo:
In part one, page 5 you mention a resource minimum of 4096 colors, which is 12 bit (not 8 like it is read there). maybe you want to change that.

thanks anyway

i think, i found em here.
if you cannot get em, please let me know, how i could help to pass them to you.
hi

is there a list of preparation resources i did not find yet ? i mean, there must be some tutorials, mocks etc. apart from what can be found at sun and whizlabs.
book recommendations would also help.

thx
id say 1,3 and 4. any particular question ?
hi

just an advice to those ranchers: if you prepare for SCDJWS and do not have real-life experience yet, start with the blueprints, as they are easy to read an do a very good job to introduce you to the big picture. After that, you can proceed to MZ study guide (which is damn good, thanks for your effort, MZ) and the RMH book, which are both very hard to study when you dont yet have an overview and the necessary vocabulary.

i passed with 84% and lost much at UDDI, which (to me) was not at all interesting and consequently hard to remember.

good luck to all of you.

puh. great. that made my day.

thanks a bunch
and congratulations.
i hope that this quesiton is appropriate to be asked here.
is a detailed knowledge of any element of the schemas of deployment descriptors and related xml dokuments necessary to pass the exam ?
i mean most of that stuff is supposed to be created by tools and remembering more than an overview of the structure is really hard and boring.

what is your opinion ?
hi

does anyone have experience with suns ePractice Exams ? i bought that whizlabs stuff and MZs quiz but i would feel better using more mock exams.
so what is your opinion ? is it worth it ?
and: how fast are we supposed to get access to it (paying with credcard, living in germany)?

exam date is near...

none necessary for the part one exam, i faced.
hi

just for those, looking for prep material, thats what i used:

1. the cade book (great, but dont skip pages !)
2. head first design patterns (helped a little)
3. head first ejb (did that bcd-exam few months ago) (extremly great)
4. mocks at http://www.javaqueries.com/ (great!)
5. whizlabs ea simulator (imho not worth it)
6. few well known articles (see resources list)

tips:

- dont fear UML, questions are very, very basic.
- know ejb lifecycles.
- know basic networking topologies.
most important:
- dont blindly believe mocks. if unsure, discuss answers/options here

this is correct for sure.

what i meant is the lessons (that I) learned while preparing for bcd help me with ea prep. i wont say it is necessary, even though detailed knowledge of, say the lifecycle of an ejb (and why it is that way) made me get a clearer picture of the underlying concepts and patterns, discussed in ea.

on the other hand, if your job is mostly communication, design and uml, bcd might render useless.

well, at least it is fun and wont hurt

After I started to create some diagramms I noticed a problem in class diagramm - class attributes are displayed like in Java "public int y" not in UML standard "+ y : int"

so... perhaps it's better not to use SUN Studio...

oh dear. NOT using a sun product to crack a sun cert, because of lack of conformity ??
sounds little funny (read: ridiculous), huh ?

can anyone clarify this ? is there an authority to ask ? i played with the idea of using this stuff, too (as i do not have the necessary monetary backing to order some rational software...)
