If Eclipse runs on RedHat Linux 9 Professional Intel x86 GTK can one expect it to run on Mandrake Linux 9.1 system which at the moment I find to be more stable than Red Hat ?
Mandrake is not given on the list:
Eclipse downloads

I would be surprised if it didn't work. Why don't you give it a try and see.

Thanks, but I am trying to figure out how much damage that will most likely do before I actually do it.

I'm pretty sure the most damage it can do is losing the time you spent in downloading the rpms (or whatever) and running the setup. If it doesn't work, it fails in the installation script because of some file isn't found in the right directory, or doesn't launch because you've got the wrong version of some library.
I admit that I haven't installed that many programs on Linux, though.

True. It couldn't find zip so it cancelled the download.
