Basic cvs questions...

Hi, I have some quick questions regarding Rational with CVS that I hope you can answer.

1. I know that Rational is integrated by default(comes w/ Rational package) with ClearCase but do you know if it can be integrated with CVS (i.e. any tool menus appear in Rational for CVS)?

2. Do you see any issues if we use CVS to save java code?

3. And lastly, cvs is free to use in a company right?

Please include any sites that are good to do cvs research on. Thanks so much!

Carmen,
1) Rational what? They make a number of products. RAD/RSA can definitely be integrated with CVS out of the box. If you are thinking of another tool, post a reply to this thread.
2) We use CVS for our Java code and it works great. If you are starting a new project and can use any version control you want, consider Subversion. It fixes a major limitation of CVS which is that CVS doesn't continue history if you rename a file.
3) Yes. CVS is free for anyone to use. So is Subversion.

Hi Jeanne, thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to be using Rational V6, I read up the redbooks iRAD: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246449.html and CVS seems to integrate well with Rational, right?
