You need JDK 1.1 or later and a JAXP compliant XML parser according to the Ant documentation. Version 1.4 of Ant included a JAXP parser in the download. I assume 1.5 does as well, but I have not downloaded it yet.

All you should need to run ant is ant. Although it is better to have it available. I believe the JDK is only necessary when you need JDK functionality such as the javac task. Also if any code being compiled relies on any sun.* classes you wouldn't have those available.
There are quite a few optional tasks which do require other libraries. To see all the dependencies check out
http://jakarta.apache.org/ant/manual/index.html
and look at the links, Installing Ant and also look at Ant Tasks - Library Dependencies

As others have said, and I'll confirm this: all you need to run Ant is the Ant installation and a JDK.

with two caveats
-you dont need the JDK unless you are doing jdk things (javac, rmic and others); the JRE itself goes a long way.
-'optional' tasks often need extra jars, as listed in the installation part of the ant docs. For example <ftp> and <telnet> need netcomponents.jar, and <junit> needs junit.jar.
the libraries you need are listed; you just stick them into ANT_HOME/lib and they get picked up.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
