Fellows, my requirements are :
- run in linux (duh)
- allow me multiple configurations. For instance, allow me to set up that when someone sends me an IM, a pop up window does not appear!, only in the taskbar. It's so anoying that everytime you get an IM the window pops up!! I'm currently using (trying) AOL IM, but I personally don't like it.
- keep logs of the conversations I have. THIS IS A MUST!!!
I was using trillian, but unfortunately there's no linux version.
thanks!!!

You can try GAIM, it's different that it uses the same message window for all your conversations, using tabbed window. I don't know if it keeps a log of it.

I downloaded Mandrake 10 the other day and it came with a messenger called Kopete. Before I had used GAIM and EveryBuddy. Kopete seems pretty solid. It's made by the KDE group. It's just like Trillian (which I use on Windows). I believe it will do everything you need it to do.
-Windows don't popup. I bubble appears at the bottom right of the screen, just like MSM.
-I believe you can tell it to log your convos
Lots of other little features. Just visit the web site.

I've used amsn with much pleasure. It aims to copy MSN and keep things simple.
Of course, it sounds like you want AOL compatibility, in which case it's no good - it's MSN specific.
Anyway, it's out there.
