Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo

Spring is here, and I'd like to do a lot of work under the gazebo

So now I'm thinking perhaps a 17" MacBook Pro... A terrible traveling machine for sure, but pretty darned nice for under the gazebo. It looks lke one can find Core Duos (as opposed to the Core 2 Duo) for a LOT less money than the Core 2 Duo.

Does anyone have any experience with these two processors and their differences? I've read online that, in practice, the Core 2 Duo is maybe 10-15% faster, but since I'm coming from a 667 mhz G4, and Abode Creative Suite is finally native-ish, I'll be thrilled either way.

Also, any opinions on glossy vs. non-glossy displays? As far as displays go I think I'm gonna need one of those glare hood thingies for outdoor work.

Bert,

Don't buy the 17"... The biggest one you want is a 15" tops.

Trust me, the 17" is portable desktop and I think the best combo is to have laptop and a desktop. You should get a 15" MacBook Pro (beefed up with max RAM and hard disk space) and a 24" iMac.

Personally, I would wait until Leopard comes out because that's when I believe newer machines will come out.

I am pleased with my glossy screen MacBook. The gloss seems to make text and images nice and crisp. BUT, it reflects any light sources (lamps, windows, etc.) in a near mirror like fashion. I find myself positioning my MacBook just so in the office...might not be best for working outdoors.

here is the 15" Macbook pro core 2 duo.(2.33GHz)
here is the 15" Macbook pro core duo.(2.16GHz)

Hello Bert,

The problem with the Core Duo is that it is the Rev A, the Rev A of the MBP has a lot of problems ( over heating, noise,... ). Since the C2D all the problems were solved...

For Leopard, you have time...it comes out in October ( if everything is fine ). If i was you, I would wait the 11 of June for the WWDC Keynote and buy after that a C2D.
