Detecting JavaScript is Enabled

Hi,
I'm looking for methods of detecting that JavaScript is enabled on the client (needed by server).
So far I am using these following methods:

and

The idea being the existence of parameter "js" with value "y" on the server indicates that the client has JavaScript enabled.
Are there better ways of achieving this?
