To quote myself in an earlier post:
JavaRanch just licenses the UBB software, we do not maintain the underlying code and functionality.
We are just volunteers too, with REAL jobs elsewhere. None of us really has spare time to code forum software.

Although given all these out of work, inexperienced programmers who say they want to do volunteer project work to gain experience, you'd think at leats some of them would volunteer to provide more functionality to the site. :-)

nice suggestion Mark! anyways i was not suggesting we have a 'MyJavaRanch'. that question was just out of curiosity. in any case logins are irritating unless absolutely necessary.

If there can be a bunch of free software to do that sort of thing, we could look into it ...

I'm a little bit puzzled by what you mean by "MyJavaRanch". Adding "My" to a site name is presumably a way of implying some sort of site functionality, but it's not a term I'm familiar with - can you expand a bit on what you understand by this?

Personalisation .... my favourite topic right now.
Basically the ability to personalise your view of the site.
Like My Yahoo etc ....
I think we don't need it right now but it may be a possibility for the future.

yes, thats what i meant. for example 'MyBrainBench', where-in you have a member login which leads to a personalized page. probably this page could give details about the no of postings, postings done in the past day, week etc.

Oh right.
Personalization I'm familiar with! My (still pre-production, sadly) web portal system "wayne" uses mass-customization to aggregate a personal view of arbitrary web sites, rdf newsfeeds and web services. It could probably work as a wrapper round Java Ranch wth a bit of thought. When I get a trial version deployed, I'll see if I can do that as an excercise.

Hello - After thinking a little about it, I do not think javaranch needs a myjavaranch.
The interface suits me as it is.
