i just wanted to know if there are actually hand held devices apart from laptops that one could use to compile and run java codes.And if there are can u please tell me where i can find them.

Some folks have handhelds powerful enough to run the J2SE SDK.
And I've seen at least one tool that allows for remoted compiling of code using any J2ME enabled device, such as a cell phone.

The question should be where to get a JRE/JDK for them...
The PDA you can buy from your local computer or electronics store most likely.
