ldap configure query

hello all
I have the open ldap server 2.2.23 with me. i have the code to create the initial context in the directory.it compiles well but runtime problem is there in each and every code.
plz suggest me how to configure the server an make it to run for me.

Another thing how could i pass the information from my relational db to ldap as if in chat application requires to have the list of currently online users name maintained in LDAP IS IS POSSIBLE??IF IT IS THEN HOW??
