Dear Friends,
I have been a regular visitor of this site for the past two months and I have to say that I have benefitted a lot by going thru the various articles in the javaranch site. The links to several mock exams were extremely useful (especially maha anna's and marcus Green's)and I thank all the people who are doing such a wonderful job of maintaining this site.
I started with no knowledge of java(though I knew a little bit of c/c++) in July and started studying from the complete Java
reference by Patric Naughton.I also downloaded the tutorial from java.sun.com. All other materials I collected from the Net.
I did lot of hard work in the past two months(studying atleast for 2 hours/day).Finally I took the exam on dec 4th and cleared with 84%.I am very happy with the result except for one small matter. During the exam I had marked some questions so that I can come back later and review them. But in the end I ran out of time and could not uncheck those marked ones(I had answered all of them).People outside the testing center told me that those marked questions would not be considered. Is this true?
I would like somebody to clarify this point. I am writing this specifically because others must not make the same mistake.
Regarding the exam:
It is not unpassable. If we have put in enough hard work we can definitely pass.Lots of questions on java fundamentals, some easy questions on AWT and java.util, overloading ,overriding and few questions on threads(which i found difficult).I have written a long message and would like to conclude.Once again I thank all of you for the wonderful support you are giving to all the people who want to become certified. I also wish all others best of luck for your exams.
Nithya

First of all congrats for sailing througt the exam.
You talked of downloading resources from the web. So did you try the electronic version of "Thinking in Java", if yes then how did you find it specifically with respect to the SCJP exam?

abhishek,
Thinking in Java is a great book, and I would say it is worth buying. I downloaded it first too, but then it became to cumbersome, so I went out and bought it. I wouldn't say it's the only thing you need for the exam, but it'll definitely help, I'd recommend Khalid's book after a close reading of Thinking in Java, but that's just my opinion.
