hello everybody
My name is Deepak and appeared for the exam on 25.1.2001 and got 35 Qs correct and failed by just one question. actually i really worked hard for it and was also getting good %age in mock exams around 75-80%in marcus greens. i got 4-5 questions on fill in the blanks in lang package which i thought i answered correctly but i got no question right in lang package. i thought i was a bit unlucky as i had got 4-5 fill in the blanks coz i think it is really difficult to answer the fill in the blanks type questions. i am really heartbroken and donot know what to do. i do not have enough money to again prepare for it. anyhow i thought the exam was very difficult as compared to the mock exams around there. anybody is welcome who could suggest me what to do. thanx.
Deepak

Dear Deepak,
I am sorry about your result. Luck certainly played a bit of a shabby trick on you. I would, however, encourage you to continue learning and particpating in the different forums here at Javaranch. Perhaps, you could put certification aside for a bit? And just take it easy.
All the best,
regards,
Jyotsna

Hello, I know it is hard to fail a test. If you give up after all this hard work it would be bad. You must try again. Next time you will have the advantage of knowing what to expect.

Look at the brightside. The next time you take the test, you know exactly what to expect.
You should have your feedback sheet with you. Try to analyze your weak areas. I suggest you concentrate on all objectives where you have scored less than 50%. Read those chapters again, make notes where you stumble often. Chew over those concepts. Ofcourse, come to JavaRanch and browse old topics that pertain to your gray areas. There are more than 30,000 SCJP related posts in the SCJP forum - there can't be another site this good!
Good luck with your next attempt. Give it some time, say about a month or so. Wait till you feel confident again.

I am sorry about your result. I want to know that the fill in the blanks you got are on string concatenation or something else ? Why do you think that you didn't score in fill in the blanks, if they are correct.
Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Harpal,
I think that I went through a topic posted here in javaranch where you had mentioned about "text box typing in" type of question where you had lost marks because you used quotes. Could please share more info on that, what do the sun guys expect when we key in an answer the provided text box? Are not the instructions clear? Where can I get more info in this, coz I'm sure you're one person who will have it!!
Thanks.
Vijay

Ravi,
I am sorry I don't have any such statistics. Sun doesn't publish those figures either. Also, when you hear someone passing the exam, you can hardly guess whether they did it in the first attempt. A lot of people don't talk about failures and so it is hard even to make an educated guess.

Hi everybody
Actually in lang package i did not include quotes in the fill in the blanks but answered the question correctly. there was no such direction to include ur answer in quotes but i think it is really stupid even if u answer ur question correctly and do not include in quotes all the 3 questions in lang package i got wrong coz of this only. this is really bad. do not know what to say.

Depak, I failed yesterday. I scored 49%(29 ans). I know it hurts. but don't give up buddy . Just focus on the topics you have missed. For other folks, if you are not good at Thread, File I/O, lang package don't bother to take the exam. I've got 13 q's on thread and 12 q's on File I/O and 8 q's on lang. Memories all the method signature and constructors for file I/o. I also recommend, abilash 10 quizes on lang package. they are same as exam. Also if you can afford buy JQplus mock exam its worth it. Try their all 600 question and make sure you pass them their thoughness is same as exam. It's not the marketing sting but personal experience ( I didn't do it, my mistake).

Hi all
Actually about the fill in the blanks i also got 3-4 in lang package which i thought i answered correctly. but there was no indication whether u have to include it in quotes or not. i did not include it in quotes. these fill-in-the blanks were in lang package. i do not know what to do. coz if i had got any fill-in-the blanks right i could have cleared the examination.

Deepak, study harder and try again. I believe lots of people (including me) who are regular visitors of the Javaranch would be willing to help you financially. Make sure to work out as many mock exams as possible and "understand" each questions in those mock exams. Post your questions at this web site.

Dear Deepak,
I felt very sorry when I read about u. It pinches even more when u coulnot make it just for one question. Anyway it's destiny. You can't have control over that . The only thing we can do is to try best on our part and someday u will be benifitted.
Anyway I am also planning to give the SCJP in the first week of March.
Till now I have given four exams in BrainBench and qualified all of them but the scores are not good enough.
I got between 3 - 3.5 in all the exams.
But that includes advance topics also.
In marcus green I find myself near 80%.
So should I go for SCJP or not also suggest some god books.
I have books by:
Khalid Mughal -Java certification study guide.
Simon Roberts -JKava certification study guide.
Anybody who can help me
My Mail id is
neeraj-thakkar@usa.net
Thanks

Hi Deepak, I feel sorry for your failure in the exam. At the same time I am equally surprised to hear that you were scoring 85-90% in JQPlus tests. We stand by our material and I request you to tell us about the things that you thought were missing in JQPlus material. Things which were asked in the exam and were not touched or properly explained in JQPlus. Or whatever you think was not there that should have been.
We'll definitely work on it.
thanks,
Paul.
